Why are we pushing our kids so early? When did sooner is better become our society’s philosophy? How often do you hear that kindergarten is nothing like it used to be and these kids are learning much younger? When did this become a positive statement?

I believe in a free childhood, it is why I am choosing to homeschool my daughter. Yet, as a teacher in the classroom I find myself enforcing rules I don’t truly believe in. Why is this? Am I just a hypocrite?

Do you have your teaching degree? What makes you think you can teach your child without it? Well, I have teaching degrees and have been doing it for nearly 2 decades and I am here to tell you that if you want to you absolutely can!

The past year has been a journey that ultimately brought me to choosing homeschooling for my daughter. I started out thinking she would go to public, then private, then felt I had to homeschool and it was a last resort. Now, I believe homeschooling is the best option and should be the first choice for those who share my philosophies on childhood, parenting and education.

Kids need fresh air and sunlight every day no matter the weather, all humans do! There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes so make sure you are all prepared and model embracing the seasons so your kids can lead happier, healthier lives.

Elementary schools are trying to fit every kid in the same mold. They are hyper focused on reading and math skills. Any child who struggles will be given more practice and no time is left for actually working on their strengths.

Children should be free to experience childhood. Childhood is defined by play and not the structured activities and screen time we are trying to pass off as play but Free Play!

Why even though I have been teaching for 20 years I’m not going to sell you a homeschool curriculum.

Children are born programmed to learn. They have natural curiosity and wonder about the world. Then why is school so difficult for most?

Schedules can be overwhelming but thinking about it like a rhythm to your day is less stressful and extremely helpful in having an awesome homeschool year.
